Ames, Iowa (May 21, 2014)  On May 6th, GlobalVetLINK, in partnership with Truffle Media, was proud to
present the Guidance for Industry 209: The Judicious Use of Medically Important Antimicrobial Drugs in
Food-Producing Animals and Digital Documentation Webinar, presented by Dr. Mike Apley DVM, PhD,
DACVCP. With 590 registrants and 414 attendees, the webinar proved to be extremely successful and became
GVLs largest webinar to date. “GVL hosted this webinar because we recognized a need among animal health
stakeholders for additional clarification of GFI 209. We were honored when Dr. Apley, a key thought leader in the
industry, accepted our invitation to present. We expected a solid turnout, but were elated when the total
attendance far exceeded expectations.” stated Amy Yarnell, Marketing Communications Manager for
GlobalVetLINK.This webinar, which offered one hour of RACE Certified Continuing Education (CE) credit, educated food animal
veterinarians, veterinary technicians, producers and other animal health stakeholders about the Guidance for
Industry 209. GVL was honored to have Dr. Mike Apley, from Kansas State University, as a presenter, offering a
veterinarian’s perspective explaining the changes and helping the audience understand how they are affected by
the guidance. Closing out the webinar, Dr. Apley also stated that although he is very knowledgeable on the topic,
there are a few areas he was not as confident as to what the correct answer would be. Because of this he “would
encourage all of the listeners to take the time to become more familiar with the 209 and 213 VFD rules as he
foresees more comments coming out soon about this important ruling.
